Marine World Uminonakamichi (Fukuoka) – Access, Hours & Fees

Marine World Uminonakamichi is an aquarium in Fukuoka that reopened in 2017. It is a very popular place, with surprisingly constructed exhibits that are powerful to see, and which make it interesting to visit more than once. You can even see dolphins swimming while you are in the restaurant, so that everywhere in this space you have the feeling of being ‘in the sea’.

Feel the power of Kyushu’s Genkai Sea

The contrast between the tanks and the natural light is incredible here, so that the sea water itself becomes another ‘living thing’ to appreciate. In the ‘Genkai Sea’ tank, which recreates the sea around Kyushu, 500kg of water is flushed into the system at different times so that the water pressure, splashes and bubbles recreate the rough seas of the area. The impressive waves, the power of the Kyushu seas and the sturdiness of the fish combine here to create a tank that is a true masterpiece!

View the ocean from 360 degrees in the Ocean Cube

One of the most popular spots in this aquarium is the Ocean Cube, a mysterious space with a glazed ceiling, sides, and base, surrounded by seawater. Here you can take a walk in the sea! It is particularly special to view the seals from here, as they come very close to you and you gain a sense of unity with them by looking at them at the same eye level. You can get the same feeling of moving through the sea from the popular ‘see-through elevator’.

See the penguin’s expressions from close up on ‘Penguin Hill’

‘Penguin Hill’ was created during the renovation and is a popular spot as you can see penguins waddling across the grass, jumping from rock to rock and swimming at high speed. You can get quite close to them, to the point where you can almost reach out and touch one, so you have the chance to observe them in great detail.

This accessible aquarium makes it easy to move around

This aquarium is equipped with ramps and all the pathways are wide. Guests in wheelchairs or who are not fond of stairs will still be able to relax and enjoy their visit!
