Noshappu Aquarium (Wakkanai, Hokkaido) -Access & Fees

Noshappu Aquarium is located at the Northernmost town in Japan, and features a magnificent view of Rishirifuji Mountain and the beautiful Rebun Island and more.  As daylight hours diminish in the north during the wintertime, many of the days between December and January are often closed.  However, there are over 120 different species and 3000 creatures awaiting you along with the breathtaking scenery of the North!

Feel the Northern Seas in the Wandering Exhibit

The main exhibit of our facility is the wandering exhibit where you can see the rare Japanese huchen, rock fish, dabs, atka mackerel and more freely swimming around. One of our popular fish is the bering wolffish from the Sea of Okhotsk. Despite its strong looking appearance, it is actually quite a timid fish and has a unique way of walking!

Feed seals, even during the wintertime!

No matter how cold it gets, our energetic spotted seals will be swimming around! Watch them splash around excitedly as our aquarists approach with food.  There is a feeding program where you can experience the process of giving them a meal, and this program is even available in the winter.  Warm yourself up through the energy that the seals show year round! Depending on the weather, you may even be able to catch the rare sight of frozen seawater flowing along with the cute seal faces poking through to take a breath!  Make sure to check the schedules for the seal show too!

Check out the Wakkanai Youth & Children’s Science Museum next door!

Located next door is the Youth & Children’s Science Museum. The exhibits here give some insight and information to dog sledding and the Karafuto-Ken (Sakhalin Husky).  There is also a planetarium, making it a great place for learning natural history.
