Miyakojima Marine Park (Okinawa) – Access, Hours & Fees

宮古島海中公園

This underwater park is built around the sea. Here you will find an underwater observation facility and a seaside café with ocean views, perfect for enjoying a day by the ocean in Miyakojima (Miyako Island).

Observe the sea through 24 acrylic windows

The main underwater observation facility here has 24 acrylic windows which allow you to observe the sea of Miyakojima in its natural state.

Outside the windows, the world of the sea spreads before you at a depth of 4 meters. There are schools of tropical fish, sea snakes, and a coral reef such as you can only see in the tropics. There is a guide who can provide detailed information about the sea conditions that day, the fish and the ecology. Learning more about the fish makes you feel even closer to this undersea world!

When the weather is fine, the water is clear, and it is possible to see many fish. So, what about when the weather is poor, and the seas are rough? While the water is certainly not as clear, it is still interesting to see the fish being moved about by the waves without needing to swim. This realistic view is something you cannot see in a typical aquarium or even while diving, so it is very beautiful in its simplicity.

Take a break in the seaside café

Why not take a break in the aquarium’s seaside café after enjoying a leisurely view of the fish? Every table has ocean views, so you can enjoy a delicious meal while looking out over the water.

The café serves dishes using ingredients from Miyakojima

The most popular item on the menu is a juicy beef hamburger made with Miyako beef and served with plenty of vegetables from the island. You can also enjoy the seafood of Miyako Island such as a poke rice bowl or a melt-in-the-mouth Miyako beef strip curry. The menu here is unique to Miyako Island.

We recommend the handmade souvenirs

Inside the office building onsite there is a shop selling handmade souvenirs made with shells and power stones, as well as t-shirts and other specialty products. It is also possible to take part in a craft class and try making something yourself, such as a pair of ‘Shisa’ dragons, a necklace, hair pin or photo frame. Why not make your own original souvenir to take home?
