Fuji Yusui no Sato Aquarium (Yamanashi) – Access, Hours & Fees

As the name suggests, the Fuji Forest Aquarium is a freshwater fish aquarium located in a scenic forest location dappled with sunshine. When you exit the tree-lined promenade you will come upon a beautiful main building with warm wooden siding. All the creatures here are kept in natural spring water from Mt. Fuji.

The highly transparent water creates ‘Flying Fish’

The use of mountain spring water in the tanks here seems to have stirred something in the creators of this aquarium.
A double-layered tank contains large rainbow trout and Japanese huchen in the outer circumference, and small fish in the inner circumference allowing visitors to observe the ecology of the freshwater fish from the region while also enjoying the artistic elements of the tank.

Recline and appreciate the fish

Beside the ‘waterside in the forest’ tank there are long wooden chairs on which you can recline and appreciate the fish at your leisure. A meter-long grass carp swims slowly in front of you and you forget your worries in an instant.
In the early summer, you can watch the seasonal migration of around 8,000 sweetfish.

This aquarium has a regional learning complex

There is a theater space to seat around 100 people with sound equipment and a high-definition screen that would be perfect for a small concert. Here they show videos of sweetfish and other freshwater fish that run for about 15 minutes.
This is a study and research facility so you can search their data base on a computer in the browsing corner. In the open lab space you can examine the ecology and habitats of freshwater fish, and also observe freshwater fish and flora and fauna through various microscopes.

What’s in the monthly tank?

The monthly tank has a rotating exhibition that is worth checking out.

There is a park next door

It is good to know that there is a park next door where children can play. This is a great place to take your lunch and relax.
