Shima Marineland is a relaxed, family-focused aquarium. The charm of this aquarium is in the ability to engage with the fish up close. There are many creatures from seas and rivers here, including the ocean sunfish. The popular ‘ancient aquarium’ exhibition shows ‘fossils of the sea’, marine molluscs and more to allow visitors to experience some of Earth’s 4.6 billion years history.

Penguins greet you as you enter
There is a penguin corner at the entrance where many penguins come to greet you. During the ‘Penguin Walk’ event, visitors can watch up close as the penguins take a walk around the facility. There is also an event where you can touch the penguins (a fee applies). You can also take pictures together here.
Meet a diver in the migratory tank!
The aquarium’s largest migratory tank contains around 2500 fish, including shark and yellowtail. The diver enters the water tank, and visitors can watch the diver’s feeding demonstration. The diver wears white clothing and it is very impressive to watch the fish flock to them. When the diver turns to wave at you through the water it really gives you a sense of calm.
The Doctor Fish are popular with children!
When you put your hand into the tank the Doctor Fish will come and start to nibble on it. They eat the dead skin to leave your hand feeling very smooth afterwards. It is very hard to describe the feeling of their nibbling, but it is quite strange. Needless to say, Children find this exhibit very funny!
Try some local delicacies from Ise!
At the restaurant on the second floor looking down over the penguin enclosure, you can try ‘Ise Udon’, ‘Hand kneaded sushi’ and other seafood dishes. There are also dishes that use ‘Akamoku’, a dried seaweed produced locally in Ise.
