This aquarium opened in 1931 and is located near a statue of Ryoma Sakamoto (one of Japan’s favorite historical figures) on Katsura beach in Tosa. This is a small aquarium but contains animals such as penguins, otters and tortoises, as well as fish from the local sea. There are seal and sea lion shows, and northern sea lion shows. It is becoming more popular as a place for tourists to stop. It is also pet-friendly (please check the website for the rules on this).

Enjoy interacting with living creatures
There is an exhibition of ‘doctor fish’ near the entrance. You can put your hand in and let them nibble your fingers! In addition, there is a tank with clownfish where they will come close to your hands, enabling you to take a special photo. You can also feed the penguins and tortoises. Appreciate rare Japanese barramundi from Tosa
One fish that should not be missed is the rare Japanese barramundi, said to only live in Kochi and Miyazaki. The name in Japanese means ‘red eyes’ and they do indeed shine like a ruby when lit by the light!
The Japanese barramundi has a dignified form and is carnivorous, making it very individual and powerful. It is rare to be able to observe these fish in an aquarium, so be sure to take a look.
Meet the curly fantail goldfish, a symbol of Tosakin
The Tosakin, or curly fantail goldfish, is a variety of goldfish that has been passed down as an independent breed in the city of Kochi. It is characterized by a red, fluffy, and graceful tail fin. You can lose track of time admiring its red body and graceful movement. The pokemon ‘Goldeen’ is based on the Tosakin!
