The Tango Uocchi-kan is an aquarium managed by the Kansai Electric power company. In addition to the aquarium there is also an ‘Energy Exhibition Room’ that exhibits materials related to power generation and energy.
About 200 kinds of animals are bred and exhibited here in 26 tanks of various sizes. The large tanks are illuminated and contain faux rocks, making them sparkly and colorful. It is very impressive to see round ribbontail rays and longtooth groupers swimming around here. They also have a feeding show. In fact, this was the first aquarium in Kyoto Prefecture before the Kyoto Aquarium was established.

There are also seals and penguins
Although this aquarium may be compact in size, they also have Magellan penguins and spotted seals in addition to fish. The spotted seal is characterized by his gentle character and a spotted fur that makes a pattern like sprinkled sesame salt. There are two here and they live together well. The magellan penguin is a much-beloved penguin from South America that measures up to 70cm long. There are three Magellan penguins in this aquarium.
There are daily feeding performances for the seals and penguins.
Play in the touch pool
The touch pool is located outside the aquarium. During summer, you can soak in the sun and also enter the pool with your bare feet. It is a popular spot because it is possible to interact with blackfish and starfish while enjoying a dip in the water. It is very shallow, so it is safe for small children. However, you are not allowed to use floats or fishing nets as they can startle the fish.
If you fancy a walk, visit Amanohashidate, one of Japan’s three scenic views
A place called Amanohashidate is nearby the aquarium. This area is rich in nature, so you can enjoy fishing and swimming on the beach, as well as plenty of delicious seafood. The aquarium and this location make the Tango Peninsula a place where you can enjoy a variety of different activities, so we recommend staying the night if you can.
