More than just dogs! Pets are welcome here.
The Keikyu Aburatsubo Marine Park is an unusual aquarium in that visitors can bring their dogs as well as many other types of pets. Check the aquarium’s homepage for more details on bringing a pet, as there are some conditions for pets such as rabbits and cats. Dog owners will be pleased to find out there is a dog run so that furry friends can get their exercise. The dolphin enclosure here even has some dolphins who like dogs. It would be so funny to see a bemused dolphin looking out of his tank at a dog!
Fantastic performances by dolphins, sea lions, otters and fish!
In the Fantasium Ocean Theater you can enjoy the dolphin and sea lion shows comfortably, even in rainy weather. Meanwhile, in the ‘Otter Forest’, you can watch an adorable river otter family as they eat their food. There is even a performance by the clever Parrot Fish that puts humans to shame!
Creatures of Kanagawa Prefecture
The ‘Miura Natural Museum’ inside the marine park showcases the breeding and exhibition of living creatures that are local to Kanagawa prefecture. We might think of the frog, the newt and the turtle as typical local creatures, but the fact is that many of these creatures are now endangered in Japan. At the Miura Natural Museum visitors can enjoy a fun tour while learning about the research and breeding of these endangered creatures. It is also interesting to see how the local elementary school is working with the museum on this protective breeding program.
When it comes to Japanese tuna, Misaki Tuna is one of the best
The restaurant inside the park specializes in dishes made from local ingredients, such as Misaki tuna. Depending on the season, you can also enjoy fried local whitebait. It is possible to purchase an entrance ticket that includes a meal, so be sure to check in advance.
