Feel the power of the school of tuna as they swim up close

After entering the aquarium and going up to the third floor you encounter a huge tank with the theme, ‘The Seas of the World’. You will feel as though you are drifting in the sea, and when you head towards the back you discover an enormous school of tuna! It is rare to be able to observe the powerful movement of the swimming tuna this close up. To be there at feeding time would be amazing.

Creatures from the seas of the world to Tokyo Bay

Typically the fish for aquariums are sourced by the facility from specialty traders. In the case of this aquarium, however, this work is undertaken by a team of specialized researchers. These researchers source the creatures for the aquarium’s exhibits directly, both within Japan and from overseas. They bring them back to the aquarium and raise them with care which allows us to observe them.

The largest penguin facility in the country has a special show

The spacious penguin enclosure is located outside the aquarium building. Here, visitors can observe four varieties of penguin; the Humboldt, Rockhopper, Fairy Penguin and King Penguin. What’s more, it is possible to view their tank from below so that it looks as though the penguins are flying around! Actually, one of the Humboldt penguins has escaped before. The story is that he lived in Tokyo Bay for 80 days by himself, catching fish and swimming around, before being caught and returned to the aquarium. Apparently, he was tossed around by the seas and so came back to the aquarium even stronger and more muscular.

There is also a mobile aquarium on the road!

Tokyo Sea Life Park has two vehicles, ‘Moving Sea’ and ‘Moving Shore’ that travel around providing mobile exhibits. Reservation and other information can be found on the home page. These traveling aquariums also include a touch corner for guests to touch the fish.
