Shinagawa Aquarium (Tokyo) – Access, Hours & Fees

This aquarium is located inside a park in Shinagawa and has exhibitions of dolphins, seals, sea lions as well as creatures found in Tokyo bay. This aquarium may be in the city but there are still plenty of events and experiences to enjoy.

An enormous tree in your path!

There is an incredibly large oak tree installed right in the middle of the floor. The room around this tree is lined with tanks in which fish, ducks, newts and other creatures are bred and exhibited. This is an impressive zone of the aquarium that allows visitors to experience the connectedness between the water, the trees, the rivers and living creatures.

A soothing underground space

On the first underground floor visitors can immersive themselves in ‘Jellyfish World’. This exhibit contains four different tanks containing moon jellyfish, cassiopea jellyfish and more. At the ‘Jellyfish Photo Stage Tank’ visitors can take a cool picture with the jellyfish! This is a popular spot for taking some ‘no-flash’ photographs that make fantastic memories.

Observe life on land and in the sea at the Seal Pavilion

One popular spot in this aquarium is the Seal Pavilion. There are viewing spaces on the ground floor and the second floor. The ground floor space is actually an underwater tunnel, allowing you to observe the seals from any angle as they swim around energetically. Above ground you can get up close to see the adorable expressions on the seals faces as they relax. The Seal Show is also a must see!

A dolphin show and dolphin petting!

If you enjoy the dolphin show, there is also a highly recommended event called ‘Touch the Dolphin!!’. This event is on a first-come-first-served basis and does have a fee, but it allows you to get close and interact with the dolphins from the performance.

Visit ‘Dolphin’ restaurant within one week of your birthday to receive an special parfait dessert! This dessert is not available for purchase (just as a gift) so if you want to try it, be sure to check the aquarium’s webpage for more details.
