Kamogawa Sea World (Chiba) – Access, Hours & Fees

Kamogawa Sea World opened in October, 1970. Much effort was placed in the breeding of dolphin and seals, and also in training the so-called ‘Fierce Creature’, the killer whale. The opening of the aquarium led to the development of a number of inns and family resort hotels, with the result that the area is now a resort.

A killer whale show you will never forget

The hallmark of the Kamogawa Sea World is the killer whale show! Held in the Ocean Stadium, this performance showcases the dynamic relationship between killer whale and trainer and is truly compelling! The ability of the trainers to communicate with these huge killer whales while performing is really something. However, if you don’t choose your seats for the show carefully you are likely to be splashed when the killer whales enter the water! For this reason, this show tends to fill up from the top seats down.

Interact with a number of sea creatures

One of the key attractions of this aquarium is the number of petting events, giving you the chance to touch dolphins, beluga whales and sea lions. It’s extremely popular with children, so for that reason it is hard to get tickets during holidays and the summer vacation. Tickets can be purchased at the information counter located in the central plaza of the park, but pre-purchased tickets are distributed before the park opens so it can be difficult to coordinate.

The wide corridors make for a stress-free experience

This aquarium attracts visitors from all over Japan and can be crowded, so it’s a relief that they installed such wide corridors. There are also plenty of ramps and elevators to accommodate those who are concerned about stairs as well as visitors in wheelchairs.

A note for guests traveling by car

Although most visitors to this aquarium come by car, the carpark is located away from the main building and the trip from the carpark to the aquarium might be difficult in extreme heat. The return trip could also be crowded, so be sure to have a plan in place to handle the heat!
